And now the end is near…

The end of the trial that is. Tomorrow we get directions on the law from the Judge and then retire to the jurors’ room for deliberations. We have three possible verdicts that we may pronounce. Not Guilty, Guilty or Not Proven. The Crown Advocate Depute has summed up for the prosecution and three lawyers have summed up for their respective clients. One of those lawyers said that he would miss us. I imagine he says that to all the jurors. We keep being told that this is the most onerous public duty we will ever have to perform. Onerous, indeed but there must be other more onerous ones. What do you think? What is the most onerous duty you have ever had to perform?
