Ashley Little: 10 tips to bag a writer

Ashley Little is the author of PRICK: Confessions of a Tattoo Artist, which was shortlisted for a ReLit Award and optioned for film, The New Normal, a novel for young adults, and most recently, Anatomy of a Girl Gang, narrated by five female gangsters and the city of Vancouver. Ashley will be guest editing The Afterword all this week.

Notoriously known for being the lone wolves of the art world, writers are especially difficult to bait and date. If you are interested in wooing a writer, here are ten tips to avoid being cast into the slush pile.

1.     DO pay for drinks, dinner, and the movie without hesitation.

Writers aren’t paid very much (some, not at all). If you want to be treated, you should be dating a lawyer or doctor instead. Your generosity will show that you support the arts.
